Jeeva -> One of the best...

Jeeva - The name itself means life. One of the best cinematographers that Kollywood so proudly treasured and boasted off. Its now almost an year since his demise due to cardiac arrest when he was shooting for his next movie Dhaam Dhoom in Russia. His death came as a shock for many people in the Kollywood industry as they had not lost a mere mortal but an amazing cinematographer who simply gave life to objects in his movies. Some of his movies like Unnale Unnale and Ullam Ketkume were hits in the box office and his latest venture Dhaam Dhoom is also a hi tech movie shot mainly abroad. But, because of his sudden death, his wife had donned the role of playing director in this movie and has taken the movie successfully. The music got released a few weeks back and it is an outright super hit thanks to the amazingly different tunes of Harris Jayaraj. So, lets hope this movie becomes a superhit and comes as a due respect to this great cinematographer.

Dasavatharam -> Explanation of the 10 avtars...

I recently came across this post in one of the communities which interested me to some extent. Here, what had been written was that all 10 characters played by Kamal Hassan in the movie represent the 10 avatars of Hindu mythology. So, lets start off with what I saw.
1.Krishna Avatar - Vincent
Lord Krishna Is Actually A Dalit, He Is Dark-Skinned [Shyamalam]. He Saved Draupadi When She Was Being Violated And He Was The Actual Diplomat In Mahabharatham. Lord Krishna Dies Of An Arrow Striking His Lower Leg. Now Look At How Vincent Was Introduced.. He Appears When Asin Is About To Be Molested And He Saves Her Like Draupadi. Vincent Is The Dalit Diplomat, Fights For Land Issue [Soil Issue To Be Exact] And Dies From The Metal Rod Striking His Leg. Oh Even Five Of Vincent’s Men Are Drugged At P. Vasu’s.. Sounds Familiar???

2.Balarama Avatar - Balaram Nadar
This Is An Easy Given. As The Name Suggests And The Role Personifies You Can Easily Get It.

3.Mathsya Avatar - Rangaraja Nambi
Nambi Is Thrown Into Water In An Act Of Trying To Save Lord From Being Thrown Into Sea, Though Vainly.

4.Varaha Avatar - Krishnaveni
During The Mukunda Song, Krishnaveni Paatti Does Varaha Avatar In The Shadow Puppetry. The Frame Freezes On It For A Second. There Is The Clue. Moreover, In Varaha Avatar Lord Actually Hides Earth So As To Protect Life Forms. Here Too Krishnaveni Hides The Germs - Life Form Inside The Statue So As To Protect.

5.Vamana Avatar - Kaliph-Ullah
Remember In Vamana Avatar, Lord Vishnu Takes The Vishvaroopa, That Is The Giant Form! Hence The Giant Kaliph-Ullah Here Symbolises Vamana Avatar.

6.Parasurama Avatar - Christian Fletcher
Parasurama Is Actually On An Angry Killing Spree And Killed 21 Generations Of The Particular Kshatriya Vamsa. Hence The Real Killer… Guess What Thats What Our Fletcher Is! He Comes Around With The Gun [Modern Upgrade For Axe] And Kills Everyone Around. I Have To Check If He Kills 21 People Though.

7.Narasimha Avatar – Shingen [Japanese martial arts master]
First Of All The Name Itself Is A Play On The Words Singam [Means Lion In Tamil] And Narasimha [The Avatar Being Symbolised]. Lord Narasimha Manifests Himelf To Kill The Bad Guy And He Also Teaches Prahaladha. In The Movie, He Shows Up To Kill The Killer Fletcher! And Is Also A Teacher.. Lord Narasimha Had To Kill The Asura With Bare Hands And Hence The Martial Arts Exponent Here..

8.Rama Avatar - Avathar Singh
Lord Rama Stands For The One Man One Woman Maxim, Kind Of Symbolizing True Love.. Here Avatar Portrays That Spirit By Saying That He Loves His Woman More Than Anything And Wants To Live For Her.

9.Kalki Avatar - Govind
As You Know, The Hero In Kaliyug Can Be None Other Than The Kalki Avatar!!!

10.Koorma Avatar – George Bush
This Is The Most Loose Adaptation I Couldn’t Clearly Comprehend. But If You Look At The Real Koorma Avatar, The Lord Is The Turtle/Tortoise That Helps In Stirring The Ksheera Sagara And Bringing Out The Amruth. This Essentially Creates War Among The Devas And Asuras. Similarly Today Bush Facilitates War Between You Know Whom… May Be Kamal Also Indicates That This Avatar Is A Bit Dumb Like The Tortoise…

Dasavatharam release date confirmed!!

It seems that there is no meaning for the term 'Official' in the case of movie Dasavatharam and its producer V Ravichandran (Oscar). Yes, once again Ravichandran has announced the official releasing date of this Kamal Hassan starrer magnum opus. According to his latest statement the film would hit the screens worldwide on June 6, without fail.

The case against the film filed by Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samraakshana Society seeking restrain the release of movie on the ground that some scenes in the film offended the feelings of Hindus has been challenged by its producer V Ravichandran.

In the counter affidavit filed by V Ravichandran in the Madras High Court, he said that the allegations mentioned in the petition were based on pure imagination as no such scenes that would hurt Hindus sentiments were there in the film. The further hearing of the case has been postponed to May 27.

However, the court has not put any restriction on the release of the film. Ravi says that he would plan to release the movie worldwide on 1000 screens in three languages Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on June 6.

Let us hope this will be the final 'official date' for the release of Dasavatharam!

Kamal amidst controversies again

Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan is always known to feature in many controversial movies off late. First it was Virumaandi. Virumandi was originally titled Sandiyar. But, because of the threats and opposition by the Sandiyar community, the movie name was changed to Virumandi. Next, came the Mumbai Express. It was at that time that a rule was announced that Tamil movies should have tamil titles. But, once again Kamal stood his case and successfully as always. Now, after creating such a big hype with his upcoming movie Dasavatharam, he is once again amidst controversies. Some of the scenes shown in the trailor has caused the Vaishnavites to get angry. The movie shows the fight that existed between Saivites and Vaishnavites. But, the case is that, they have wrongly portrayed the whole thing. So, the committee of the Vaishnavites have filed a case against the release of the movie. I really hope that the movie releases soon and I also hope it lives upto the hype that it created. Ulagamengilum unnai minjida yaaru!! Unnai petradhil perumai kolludhu paaru!! Ulaga nayagane!!!

Ninaithale Inikkum part II

Remember ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’. The blockbuster film in 1979 by K Balachander set a new trend in Tamil film industry. The riveting songs by M S Viswanathan worked out wonders. The dream duo of Kamal and Rajni came together in this movie. After three decades, a movie titled ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’ will be made in Kollywood. Starring Sakthi and Prithviraj in the lead roles, the movie will have Priyamani playing the heroine. Produced by Gemini Film Circuit, the movie is directed by Kumaravel, who has assisted Kamal Haasan in many films. The director was quick to clarify stating that it is no remake of yesteryear classic. The title has been borrowed since it fits the storyline.

The video below stands testimony to this great hard-working actor, who, after beginning his life as a conductor has grown slowly and steadily to become what he is now...

His famous punch dialogues are a treat to watch and here are some of them...

Finally, wish him a very happy birthday again... Waiting for more of his films!!! Thalaiva... Nee enikkume Thalaivar thaan... No parallels to Superstar!!! Finally, a tribute to Superstar Rajnikanth!!!

Rajni + Kamal combo!!!

The recent hot news that is right now doing the rounds is that the deadly combination of Rajni and Kamal is back again after a brief stint of movies like Ninaithaale Inikkum, 16 Vayadhinile, Thillu Mullu, Aadu Puli aatam etc. But this time its gonna be a Rajni film which is gonna be produced by Kamal hassan and rumours are that this film is going to be directed, not by the legendary director Manirathnam(As expected) but by the young and dynamic director A.R.Murugadoss who has given some high quality movies to the Tamil film industry by directing films like Ramana, Ghajini etc. All his films showed a different dimension to the hero. So, hope this combo rocks well in the new film that will possibly be released by 2009..

Om Shanti Om Vs Saawariya

After completing the previews on the Tamil films that are going to be released this Diwali, I was switching channels when I noticed this "OSO vs Saawariya" in one of the prominent channels. Both these BIG films are going hit the silver screens on the D-Day... So, thought of writing a preview on both these highly expected films...

Om Shanti Om:
The story basically revolves around 2 characters.. Om and Shanti... Om is a junior artiste where as Shanti is one of the famous actresses in the 1970's!! Om is a big fan of hers and deems Shanti as his biggest inspiration.. So, the story started in 1977 and ends in 2007!!! The character Om is gonna be played by King Khan and Shanti us gonna be played by the latest sensation in bollywood, Deepika Padukone!!!

Cast: Shahrukh Khan
Arjun rampal
Kirron kher
Shreyas talpade
Deepika padukone
Bindu

Crew: The film is choreographed, written and directed by the one and only Farah Khan!!! Its a film produced by Shahrukh's wife, Gauri Khan... Muzik is done by Vishal & Shekhar and the camera work is handled by Manikandan...

The film has created a big hype among all genre and is expected to be a runaway hit!!! The songs are good and hope the film ranks better!!! All the best to King Khan's Om Shanti Om..

P.S. King Khan has presented Farah Khan with a brand new Mercedes after seeing the screening of Om Shanti Om...

Next we come to another big film..

Saawariya:
Saawariya means " beloved".. Saawariya is the beloved who is always in love and Only the lover who stands the test of time…who overcomes all obstacles…who doesn’t care whether he gets the girl or not…
The story basically is about two young lovers whose passions almost consume their will to the brink of self-destruction.

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor
Salman Khan
Rani Mukherjee

Crew: The film is directed by the legendary Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has given us a lots of hits and made history in bollywood. Muzik is by Monty Sharma and the man behind the camera is none other than Ravi.K.Chandran... This movie is set to release worldwide on November 9th and is expected to match Om Shanti Om in every lines and serve as a big threat to King Khan...

P.S. Ranbir Kapoor is the grandson of the legendary stalwart, Raj Kapoor and is the son of the cute onscreen pair of Rishi kapoor and Neetu singh..
Whereas, Sonam kapoor is none other than the daughter of Anil Kapoor..

So, lets see the winner when both lock horns in a couple of days time... Till then, its Happy Diwali to all of u guys and gals!!!

Diwali movies - A Preview

Its been a long time since I wrote a review of a movie. The reason is not because I havent seen any movie.. In fact , of late, I have been watching all movies in theatres due to Raja, Sadesh and Ragav.. Diwali is fast approaching and a flurry of films are making its way... In fact, we have planned to go to a movie after completing each exam... So, the films which are possibly releasing this Diwali are:

Azhagiya Thamizh Magan: This Vijay flick is supposedly going to be a wholesome entertainer... The muzik is by the King AR Rahman and this stands as a big + for the film.. The songs are already a big hit!! Shreya and Namitha co star with Vijay.. For the first time, Vijay is going to be cast in double roles and I really hope it doesnt flop cos he usually flops big times if he experiments something different. Also, for the FIRST time in history is a film of Vijay gonna be released in SATHYAM cinemas...

Vel: This is truly gonna be a big family entertainer.. The muzik is okay but not actually a hit!!! Surya does a double role in this film which is gonna be based in a village.. Thanga Thalivi ASIN costars with surya and this is expected to be a hit cos the onscreen chemistry between these 2 work very well like in Ghajini..

Kannamoochi Yeanada: This is the underdog but is expected to cause some shudders to other films as this film doesnt really boast of big stars.. Prithviraj,Sathyaraj and Radhika are the well known stars... This is supposedly a family entertainer as well.. The songs are pretty decent...

Polladhavan : Starring Dhanush, this film shares the name with the blockbuster Polladhavan starring Rajni... The muzik by GVPrakash has stirred quite a few hearts.. The remix of Engeyum Eppodhum by Yogi B rocks!! Minnalgal koothadum MAzhaikalam, the melody sung by Bombay jayshri and Karthik is sure to melt a few hearts including me...

One more film Machakaran starring jeevan is expected to release on the Diwali day... Bheema and Billa are expected to blast their way in, during the month of December.. So, enjoy this Diwali with films!!! Happy Diwali!!!

Minnalgal Koothadum Mazhaikalam!!!

There have been some amazingly cool melodies that have been stealing my heart of late. Songs like Sahana from Sivaji and Enadhuyire from Bheema really made me sit and hear them for umpteen times... Now, more recently, Otraikannale from Vel also hears good... But, the song which is really making me feel lighter is from the film Polladhavan.. Seriously, I dint expect GV Prakash to come up with this good melody. Although it might have been copied from some English pop crap, I liked this song, Minnalgal Koothadum Mazhaikalam.... Really cool song sung by Karthik and Bombay Jayashree... Will post in the lyrics as soon as I lay my hands on it...

Azhagiya Thamizh Magan songs rock!!!

Usually, I am not much inclined to Vijay films although his songs are always ear-soothing. And, his latest film ATM's songs are no different. Muzik is by the King of Music, AR Rahman and so, what more can you expect more than this.. ARR is simply too much for an actor of Vijay's calibre. The song, Ellappughazhum Oruvan Oruvanukke, particularly is amazing with the king himself lending his voice for the song. Simply superb lyrics adding on to the versatile sining of the king proves simply too much of an opening song for Vijay.. So, undoubtedly, ATM songs are a sure hit!! Will come up with a review soon..

Now, for those of you who think that this post is a continuation of the previous post, then im sorry that it definitely isnt one.. I hope everyone would hav heard of this term called earworms... For those of you who dont know what earworms are, its actually the set of songs that keep humming inside you all the time... I came across this term earworm in the blog randomcrazy thanks to sundar... So, I wish to share some of the earworms that I keep humming about..

Ear soothers!!!

After posting on my favorite movies, now is the time for posting on my favorite songs.. Now, I just cant end with a list of just 40 songs just like i did with the movies part because songs provide life to anyone's life.. Songs are something that makes our heart light. So, I can just not stop with a short list of songs.. So, here I am listing a few of the songs which I enjoyed the most and also felt that they made me feel good.
I will recall just a few of the songs that I have been hearing in the past few months...
1) Starting with the latest, the first on the list would be the one that I heard and I kept on hearing again and again for the past few weeks... Its the song that hit me like anything atleast for the past few days... Its Enadhuyire Enadhuyire.. Enakenave Nee Kidaithai... Enadhurave Enadhurave, Kadavulaipol nee mulaithai...
2) My next pick would be one crazy one that is especially liked by boys in particular.. And itz none other than June ponal july kaatru.. Kan paarthal Kadhal Kaatru... It deals with the practical way in which guys handle things in life(things include gals)
3) Another song that i like is from the film Samurai.. I just like the sceneries in that song and i feel that its very melodious to hear.. Its, Moongil Kaadugale... Vandhu Munagum Paadalgale.. Dhoora Sigarangalil.. Thaneer thuvaikkum Aruvigale...
4) Another one that i ilke is from the film Sachin which is, Kanmoodi thirakkumbodhu Kadavul Edhire vandhadhu pola, Adada en kanmunnaale avale vandhu nindrale...
5) Another one that i like is the song from Sivaji.. which is Sahana Saaral thoovudho... Sahara pookal poothadho...

The latest tamil movies that i liked!!!

Though most of the latest tamil movies lack quality and also fall on a similar storyline there are still some tamil movies that i actually liked though they may or may not be of the best quality as far as the main criterions are considered. 1) Baasha

3) Anbe Sivam
4) Indian

My top tamil movies..

After that non-exhaustive list of oldie goldie, out of which I could post the best 10, here comes my best 10 movies of the middle era ie some notable movies during the Kamal-Rajni era.. So, being a Rajni fanatic, you can see some good Rajni movies in my list which many may not be liking.. So, my favorite tamil movies of the middle generation are:
1. Thillu Mullu
2. Michael Madhana Kama Rajan
3. Thee
4. Varumayin Niram Sigappu
5. Dharmathin Thalaivan
6. Khaki Sattai
7. 100avudhu naal
8. Thavani Kanavugal
9. Rajathi Raja
10.Aboorva Sagodharargal
Once more the numbers do not the denote the ratings.. I may have missed some films which may incidentally be blockbusters but these were the best 10 that I could remember.. Again a non-exhaustive list...

The top movies in Tamil that i enjoyed the most..

I have, in these past 12yrs of watching films, enjoyed a lot of films in tamil and once again it proves to be a very difficult to tell the best films that i have enjoyed.. So, I decided to post whatever film that comes to my mind provided it made me to enjoy the most. And one thing, I dont expect anyone to like the kind of movies that I like because I am definitely not a good critic when it comes to rating the best films. So, people please dont critisize my liking. So, the top 10 movies from the range of the early 1940's to 1960's which i call the oldie goldies, that I have enjoyed the most are:
1) Edhir neechal
2) Kappalottiya Thamizhan
3) Thillana Moganambal

5) Poova Thalaya
6) Server Sundaram
7) Pattanathil Boodham
8) Arangettram
9) Bharatha Vilas
10)Kaadhalikka Neramillai
These are just my top ten oldies and they are no way related to the numbers.. The numbers are just counters and not the ratings..
