SlumDog Millionaire - A review..

Cast:Dev Patel, Freida Pinto,Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Madhur Mittal, Imran Hasnee, Mahesh Manjrekar.
Direction:Danny Boyle
Music:A R Rahman

Its been a long long time since I blogged on something. To be precise, its been 112 days since I blogged over here. So, finally, decided to break the shackles by posting a review on the latest much hyped movie SlumDog Millionaire.

The movie has already driven a really huge fan following after it won four Golden Globe awards this year. AR Rahman made us proud by winning the Golden Globe award for the best original score. The movie has been doing well in the box office and already it has been nominated for many awards for the Oscar 2009.

The movie basically is nothing but a 120 minute long film on all the negatives in India. The director Danny Boyle has shown the World about the black spot in India. Although there are many countries which are even more downtrodden when compared to India, Danny has chosen India just because here is the place where you can do anything and everything. You can mock at Indians and abuse Indians and we Indians never really care about those stuff. It is a real shame that the Indians, after watching the movie, are appreciating it but not thinking about why our country is like this. I have seen a dozen reviews which hail this as a great movie but the title in itself says what people in other part of the World think about our country.

The movie is basically about a guy from a slum area in Aamchi Mumbai who participates in the "Who wants to be a millionaire" show and wins the 20million rupees. Mainly focussed on showing the sufferings and sorrow of the people in the OTHER part of our country, this movie also shows about the destiny of the lovers who are separated in their childhood. But, as the director has showed in this movie, a person in a slum needn't be a "Know Nothing" fellow. And definitely he needn't be compared to a Dog. In fact, the world's most intelligent people hail from this amazing country called India and it is one fact that the director should be reminded of. I appreciate Danny Boyle's idea in portraying the miseries faced by slum-dwellers. But, I would have even more appreciated if he did something good for the betterment of the slum dwellers instead of minting money which he has generated through this movie.

In a particular scene where Jamal has to answer the 1 million rupees question, the host Prem(Anil Kapoor) suggests the wrong answer to Jamal during the break. It is later shown that he did that because he wanted to be the Hero of the show and that is why he gave the wrong answer to Jamal. I mean no host would have such an attitude and jealosy towards a guy winning a million rupees. Mr.Danny Boyle!! You have exaggerated a lot in this movie and still you are able to generate the revenue you wanted!! Thats the Generous India for you!! Jai Ho!!!

Bottomline: SlumDog Millionaire - An attempt to portray the OTHER part of India in the worst possible way!!

Rating : 7/10.

Saroja --> Oru Kannottam

Banner : Amma Creations
Cast : Prakashraj, Jayaram, SPB Charan, Premji Amaran, Shiva, Sampath, Nikitha, Vaibhav, Kajal, Vega and Chennai-28 team ( Special appearances )

After a long gap, its again time for a red hot review of a movie and I had been waiting for a long time to watch a decent movie and I just did that yesterday.
Saroja - A good attempt by the successful Chennai-28 crew and once again, they have emerged victorious.

The movie starts off with a song featuring Saroja who forms the crux of the story and that is the simple reason why the movie is titled so. And the next few scenes has the bubbling youth of Premji, Charan, Siva and Vaibhav rocking all the way. They start from Chennai to watch a Cricket match that is going to be held in Hyderabad. They go on a van and because of an accident, their travel is halted. So, they go in another route which Shiva says, is the short route. And then whatever adventure and action that they face forms the rest of the story. Premji is a jolly go lucky cricket fan with a great affinity towards love and Cupid strikes every time he sees a girl. Charan works in a company and is married and also has a child. His brother Vaibhav is a vetti guy who often whiles away time with his niece. And then there is Siva who is a TV serial actor. Meantime, Prakashraj is a millionaire and his only daughter is Saroja. She goes missing one day and Jayaram is the Asst Commissioner of Police who offers to help Prakashraj in finding out Saroja. What happens to Saroja??? Did they find her out? This is the story. With this simple storyline, the director, with good cinematography and background score to support him, has made this wonderful thriller cum comedy movie and this is indeed a successful attempt. The music by Yuvan adds to the success of the movie with most of the songs with its feet tapping music keeping the viewers engrossed.

"+" :
* The simple story line well etched to form a nice thriller.
* The comedy sequences involving Siva and Premji Amaran rock!!
* The Background score is good and gives the much needed feel that a thriller movie demands!!

"-":
* The initial few scenes are a bit too complex and it takes some time to know what the movie is all about.

Overall, a neat movie with good performances from everyone involved to provide a visual treat to the movie hungry audience.

Bottomline -> Saroja "Scintillates"!!!

Rating -> 7.5/10

Dasavatharam -> Oru Kannottam...

Banner : Aascar films
Cast : Kamal Hassan, Asin, Nagesh, Jeyapradha, Napoleon, Santhanabarathi, Vayapuri, P Vasu matrum palar..

Back ground score: Devi Shree Prasad

Dasavatharam - One of the mot hyped movies of the present genre and did it live upto the hype that it created?

The movie starts off in a different manner when Kamal narrates it in brief and it starts from the 12th century AD. The first Kamal is introduced in this scene and Asin and Napoleon also join the party in this first 15minutes which is completely based on the clash between Saivaites and the Vaishnavites. The opening scene itself shows the sheer class of the maestro of acting, Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan. Then, what follows for the next 2 hours forms the remaining part of the story. Its about finding a nuclear disaster in the form of a mini chip and destroying it as soon as possible to avoid environmental mishaps. The story is very short and so, I am not going to give out any spoilers in this review. Asin does well in her role as a brahmin girl and provides good timing comedies along with Kamal Hassan. The main Kamal characters that impress more in this movie are that of Vincent Poovaragan a reformer, Balram Naidu as a telugu speaking Police and of course the other characters churn well with the rest of the story. When it comes to the music part, the Kallai mattum kandal song amazes with its visual finesse and so does the Oh oh Sanam song which provides some feet tapping entertainment to the audience. Michael Westmore, who transformed Jim Carrey into The Mask, is the one who has handled the make up department. Six hours a day for Kamal is what was spent only on make up to get the right look for one of the characters and it was 4 hours for Napolean. The levels of perfection can only be imagined. The Visual Effects, too, had an expert from Hollywood handling matters. Brayn M Jennings, an Oscar nominee.The sets by Thotta Dharani are commendable and totally its one of the out and out Kamal classics where the whole story revolves around this great man, born to act!!! The way he handles all his characters perfectly well amazes the audience and it is of course a magnificent spectacle to visualize this superb movie on the first day of its release. A standing ovation to Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan
for these classy performances. Ulagamengilum Unnai Minjida Yaaru!! Unnai Petradhil Perumai Koludhu Naadu... Ulaga Nayagane!!!

"+":
* Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan obviously proves to be the biggest positive and in fact the pillar of this story.
* The make up man Michael Westmore amazes by doing the make up for Kamal in this movie and he has done it in such a way that none of the 10 kamals resemble each other.
* The technical brilliance in this movie simply mesmerizes the audience, be it the visual effects or the sets or the stunt scenes.
* The dialogues by Crazy Mohan and Kamal Hassan make up for the comedy element in the movie.

"-":
* Before the release, Aascar Ravichandran had told in an interview that in this movie, all 10 roles are so well explained that even a layman can understand the movie. I beg to differ. I am sorry to say that it is not going to be a big box office hit at the B and C centers.

Overall, a wholesome entertainer that touches the height of Hollywood and a great treat by our own Ulaga Nayagan.

Dasavatharam -> Certainly Better than the Best!!!

Rating : 7.5/10

And for the answer to the question that I had asked in the first line, I dare say it didn't, to some extent. This movie could have definitely been better. And though many movie pundits may say that this is one of the best movie in Kollywood, I still don't quite think so. Maybe, Dasavatharam is the best so far.

Kuruvi --> Oru Kannottam

Banner : Red Giant Movies
Cast : Vivek, Vijay, Trisha, Suman, Manivannan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Charanya matrum palar...
Direction : Dharani
Production : Udhayanidhi Stalin
Muzik : Vidyasagar
Film Certification : A
Certification : A
Post Certification : U

Before starting off with the review, I wish to pay my condolences to the sudden demise of the brains of Director Dharani and Music Director Vidyasagar.

To start off with the movie, Kuruvi, its an action-packed entertainer with the usual sentiments, kuthu songs, heroisms and punch dialogues that you expect in a Vijay movie. The movie starts off in a different way with the sets in Cuddapah hugely reminding the viewers of the movie Blood Diamond. Only later will you find that it is actually inspired from that movie itself.

The movie basically is about a person who single-handedly saves his father and a whole lot of people who have been held as hostages by a group and are being tortured by them in a deserted area. Who else but Vijay can be able to handle such a heavy role with ease. The first half is extremely fast paced with super fast screenplay in which Dharani stamps his authority.
More than Vijay, its Vivek who keeps the audience on their seats with his rib-tickling comedy. The combo of Vijay and Vivek make the first half, the best half in the movie. Coming to the 2nd half, I don't know what went wrong here. The movie suddenly becomes very slow and ultimately boring. The songs add to the already existing headache. The punch dialogues which were absent in the first half makes its way into the 2nd half and its almost like a Perarasu movie in the 2nd half. Another reason for the poor 2nd half is the absence of Vivek. The Music is terrible with just a one song Thaen Thaen bringing some smile to the listeners. The other songs are all of the same genre and absolutely makes the audience frown like anything.
Trisha doesn't get a meaty role in this movie and all she does is to run behind the hero and dance for the songs. But, Trisha, who has put on some weight is looking absolutely glamorous in this movie. I can't think of any other movie in which she looked so sexy.The other characters in the movie do their job well.

Overall, one has to admit that this movie is ideally tailor-made for Vijay and is a treat for Vijay fans. But for ardent movie buffs, I am sorry to say that this movie is not the one for you.

"+":
* Vivek's comedy forms the best part of the movie.
* Vijay looks good in the movie and his acting is a big plus in the movie.

"-":
* Music is not upto the mark. Vidyasagar can do well to improve and give better music in forthcoming movies.
* Is this movie directed by Dharani???
* The 2nd half drags and the jarring punch dialogues do no good either.
* Some action sequences are a bit too much to digest.

So, its time Dharani comes back to his usual self and gives some good entertainers like Ghilli and Dhool.

Bottomline: Kuruvi fails to fly. Just a flap of a feather.

Rating: 5/10.

Billa --> Oru Kannottam

Banner : Ananda Pictures
Cast : Ajithkumar, Nayanthara, Namitha, Prabhu, Rahman, Santhanam matrum palar...
Direction : Vishnuvardhan

Billa... What to say about this film??? I was absolutely flammoxed at the end of the film and just am waiting for the day when I can get to see the movie again.. Such is the class of the film... And, there is absolutely no exaggeration in whatever I tell here. Also, I am not at all responsible if the film doesnt impress you..

Coming to the review, there is nothing new in the story basically, because it is an out and out remake of the original film Billa starring Rajnikanth which in turn was a remake of Don starring AB.. So, this film created a lot of expectations among fans, particularly Ranji fans, because they really expected the movie to be on par with the original Billa.. And, the good news is that, Billa 2007 is as good as the original version and I dare say that Ajith has really shown his class by bringing out a splendid performance which will be remembered as long as the role of Rajni was remembered. The film starts of in the same fashion as the older one, except for a few changes here and there... Ajith has come up with an out and out rocking performance as Billa and he must have indeed made Rajni proud... Also, the style, the mannerisms and the expressions that he renders to the audience are a perfect treat to watch... Also, the most important and amazing fact is that, Ajith doesnt speak a word for the first 15 mins of the film... The first word that he speaks is "Checkmate" and this shows the professionalism of the film and the actor.
Ajith has donned 2 very different characters in this film.. One is the seriously shrewd Billa and the other is the simply jovial and guy with a dont care attitude, Velu.. The other Ajith is very spontaneous in the comedy scenes with Prabhu and Santhanam and the scenes simply tickle every nerves... Prabhu, as the DSP, does a decent enough job and handles his character with a certain amount of disdain... He is also too good in his acting and mixed with a good sense of humour. Rahman does the role of Jagdish and he has also done his small part well..

It is really pleasing to watch a gorgeous Namitha in this movie as CJ, Billa's girl friend. She is absolutely glamorous as always and her expressions are far improved than it was in her previous movies.
And, not to forget the role of Sripriya which has been done by the beautiful Nayanthara who has given her best in this film... She is particularly stunning in the stunt scenes and truely shows that she has done a lot of homework for this film...
The film is absolutely sexy as a whole and is also thoroughly professional and resembles a Hollywood film in every scene!!! The true fact is that, the film is completely full of Black & White and one can see some other color only in some songs which in itself shows a Hollywood touch. Some of the scenes which resembles a Hollywood touch starring Ajith and Nayanthara are:

So, overall, Billa 2007 steals all hearts with its sheer class and grandeur and will prove to be an absolute treat to all Ajith as well as Rajni fans, in fact, a good treat to all movie buffs...

Billa and Billa 07:

Rajnikanth - Ajithkumar
Sripriya - Nayanthara
Helen - Namitha
Major Sundarrajan - Rahman
Balaji - Prabhu

"+":
* Ultimate star Ajith proves to be the biggest plus in this film.. Almost prefectly matches the role.. No other hero could have done any more justice to this role..
* Stunt scenes have been shot particularly well.. Imagine a film where even a heroine like Nayanthara has done her stunt scenes superbly well and also without dupe(I hope)
* Cinematography is amazing and the song My name is Billa stands testimony to the wonderful cinematography
* The remixes My name is Billa and Vethalaya Pottendi rock like anything and is an absolute treat to Ajith fans
* Prabhu does his role with finesse and also shows both wit and humour in his acting

"-":
* The story could have been slightly modified so as to send the audience to the edge of their seats
* The muzik could have been a little better although the BGM rock!!!

Overall, a film with power packed performances with professionalism and sheer grandeur makes it a sleek entertainer and a big success in all centers.

Billa --> Checkmate to all other films!!!

Rating : 8/10

P.S. If I have left out any more positives, you can very well make a note of it in the comments section cos I am still not out of the Billa mania...!!!

Oram Po --> Oru Kannottam

Warning : Please read the post only if you are above 18 yrs of age. And, please dont feel offended by this post, readers. This post contains offensive language and vulgarity. So, if you still wish to read the review of Oram Po.. Please go ahead.. For people who dont wish to... Oram Oram Oram Po.....

Cast : Arya, Pooja, Lal, Jagan, Ashwini, Nellai Siva, John Vijay matrum palar...
Special thanks to all autos!!!
Direction : Pushkar & Gayathri
Music : GV Prakash
Production : V Palanivel & A C Anandhan
Film Certification : U/A
My Certification : U/A
Post Certification : U/A

Oram Po is a cheerful entertainer which takes you to the lighter side of life which is undoubtedly to laugh and keep laughing... This one is completely a semma local and a semma kalakkal film which has got all that is needed to woo the B & C centers... This one is a realistic film based on the life of Auto drivers..

Coming to the review, the film starts off with ultimate gethu where a gang of goondas come and eat in a hotel in Mumbai and when asked to pay the bill, one of them shows a knife and tells the owner that he is Mumbai Bhai, the biggest rowdy in Mumbai... For once, I thought that it was going to be a brawl out there.. But, then, the owner takes a bigger Arivaal and says he is Annachi... The goondas pay the bill and walk off.. So, again a thought struck me because, I thought that this was going to be a serious film... But no... I was wrong... The next 90 mins sent me rolling on the floor laughing... Every scene, every frame carried humour... Although, the dialogue writer has gone a little over board by including many SINGLE meaning dialogues... They will be tabulated at the end.. Arya as a autorace driver does his role at great ease... Of course, this style of acting suits him a lot... Although he can do a little bit of home work on his expressions... Pooja is different in this film as a local biriyani girl.. I mean biriyani selling girl... Her chemistry with Arya is great in this film... Next, is Lal... He does a good role as Arya's friend and a auto mechanic... Im seeing him for the first time after Sandaikozhi and he has proved his might as a villain in that film as well as a comedian cum actor in this film... His dialogue delivery is spontaneous too... Then, Jagan of Kadavul padhi mirugam padhi fame, has done his part well... His conversations with Arya makes every nerve within you to tickle!! And, the most important character in this film was undoubtedly John Vijay... In his first film, he has played an almost perfect role... First of all, his slang simply creates humor.. And, when that slang mixes with some amazing dialogues, what you get is some rib-tickling comedy.. He doesnt look a first timer at all... Infact he handles his role with a hint of nonchalance coupled with a big mixture of NAKKAL and NAYYAANDI... Almost all characters do their role well... Even the autos Lakshmi and Cheetah have done their part... Coming to the muzik, GV Prakash, I think is going to get some really good offers because what he offers is some simple and soothing muzik which makes every legs tap... He can just continue this technique.. Polladhavan, then Oram Po both rock with their muzik... The director couple of Pushkar & Gayathri need to be lauded for their daring move in directing such a film which is so very different from the others... If only, this had released for Diwali, I think quite a few movies would have sent to the corner(Oram Po)... So, coming to the characters in the film...

Arya - Chandru
Pooja - Rani
John Vijay - Son of Gun a.k.a Pichai
Lal - Bigle
Autos Lakshmi and Cheetah...

To prove the A certification of this post, its my duty to post on the SINGLE meaning dialogues in this film... Guyz and Galz.. Feel free to be offended... Padikravanga Padinga... Padikka mudiyaadhavanga Oram Po....

Arya: Yenda ipdi eruma maadu ku*u vidra madhri coffee ya ipdi urinji kudikara...??
Jagan: Idhu paravayillai... Nethu shootingla heroine vittanga paaru oru Darru... Ellame naari pochu...
Arya : Ayyae!! Namitha kooda ku*u viduvaangala??

Key: Replace * by s...* ;)

Son of Gun special punches:
Palapazhathuku kottai irukkungardhukaaga, aambalainga ellarayum palappazhamnu koopda mudiyuma??

Arya: Seekram oru kalyanam panniko Bigilu!!
Lal: Kalyanam ellam velaiku aagadhu pa... Saapadu pongi, rasam, sambhar oothi... Velaiki aagadhu... " Kadaiki Ponoma.. Kaasa kuduthoma.. Biriyani saaptoma nu irukkanum"...

Ultimate punch by son of gun:
Ennaya naatham pudicha friendshippu.. Eeyum peeyum friendshippu... Pee kaanja E parandhudum...

Son of gun sees Arya & Pooja conducting free service in an auto... Sends out another amazing dialogue... Cha!! Roadla naai jollya irukumbodhu kalla vittu yeriyava mudiyum??

Before a gruelling race: Itz Chandru vs Kozhi!!!
Bigil: Inikki yaar otta poradhu theryuma?? Kozhi... Avan semma sharppu... Theryumla..
Chandru @ Kozhi: Hey kozhi!!!
Kozhi: Dei... Inikki naan kozhi illada.. Kazhugu!!! (Watch the film to enjoy the comedy)

"+":
* John Vijay as Son of gun is really the biggest positive in this film... He is gonna get flooded with offers sooner or later...
* All characters play their part well and this also forms the biggest plus..
* Local Kalakkal Muzik for this local kalakkal film..
* The length of the film amazes me... A short and sweet film...
* Cinematography rocks!!!

"-":
* A useless item number which comes at an unnecessary time and phase of the film...

Overall, Oram Po makes other films to Oram po through the ultimate comedy and humor that it provides making it a superb entertainer...

Bottomline: Oram po rocks!!!

Rating: 6.5/10

Pollathavan --> Oru Kannottam

Banner : Group companies
Cast : Dhanush, Bajaj Pulsar DTSI TN-04 H-1386, Divya Spandhana, Murali, Banupriya, Daniel Balaji, Santhanam, Karunas matrum palar.
Direction : Vetri Maran
Music : G.V.Prakash Kumar

This film Pollathavan released this Diwali along with many films starring some big guns. But, still, it stands atop all those films. An underdog, this Diwali, Pollathavan has got umpteen reasons to be on top!!

The film starts off in a dark place where Dhanush is seriously injured but still has bashed all the goondas and staggers along the road and rides home in his Bajaj Pulsar. For a moment, I thought that it was going to be another Pudupettai. But, I was proved wrong almost instantaneously. A flashback story where there is a flashback each for the Hero as well as the villain. No spoilers this time.. Cos, I have many things to tell, leave alone the story. Dhanush plays his part almost with ultimate ease. He is best suited for these types of roles. All his previous films which have been hits has him playing these type of a normal, simple guy roles which suits him best. This film is all about comedy , sentiment and a bit of action in the first half and complete action in the second half. Dhanush is an absolute treat to watch with his body language and amazing nonchalance in speech. The Bajaj Pulsar plays an important role in the film. It in fact forms the crux of the story.
Divya is something very different from the Ramya that she was in the previous films. She looks stunning in every scene but she can do well to shed some weight. Divya with the looks of a girl next door is beautiful to watch in most of the song sequences.
Next, Murali, as Dhanush's father plays a commendable role and needs to be lauded. Banupriya, as Dhanush's mother has been wasted in this film. Next, the comedy by Santhanam and Karunas really tickles every nerve. The dialogue of Karunas, "Machan!! Nee Kelen" still chimes in my mind. Santhanam too is good with his timing comedy with Dhanush. Next, Daniel Balaji once again plays the role of Villain although he is Sappa this time, cos everytime, Dhanush beats him in all ways. The other villain and his close associate are newcomers to this film industry and both of them do their job well... Anju, as the villain's wife makes a comeback into Kollywood. The stunt sequences are the best part in this film. Next, about the muzik, GV prakash has ensured that the film doesnt lose out in any area by giving some entertaining muzik in this film.
Minnalgal koothadum Mazhaikalam gets into your heart where as Engeyum Eppodhum by Yogi B gets into your mind... So, Vetri Maran is indeed victorious in his first film as director. Overall, a complete movie which is worth watching for all ages.

"+":
* The amazingly natural stunt sequences which makes it different from other films
* Dhanush's six pack in the climax, looks like another Bruce Lee
* Comedy by Karunas, Santhanam and Dhanush and the amazing muzik by a new director
* The newcomer Villain does justice. Hope he gets some more villain offers
* Divya with a mixture of hot and cool
* Murali is a gud choice to play dhanush's father and he needs to be lauded too

"-"
* Daniel Balaji adds into the negatives just because of the crazy way in which he has been portrayed
* Banupriya has been wasted in this film as she has very less scope to act
* No more negatives boss

Bottomline: Pollathavan against all odds, wins the battle of the Diwali crown!!

Rating: 6.5/10

Vel --> Oru Kannottam...

Banner : Sree Rajakaliamman Medias

Direction : Hari

The film starts off with a rather ominous fashion with the couple of Charan raj and Charanya losing one of their 2 babies in a train. A chain snatcher takes the baby away for getting hold of the gold ornaments worn by the baby. So, it becomes pretty obvious that the Suryas are indeed twins unlike ATM. One Surya(Vetrivel) is bred in a village and he is like a savior for the family and the village from the clutches of Kalabhavan mani who is the comedy villain in the film. The whole family loves Vetrivel like anything and they are one big family. Meanwhile the other Surya(Vasu) is brought up by his parents in city. He is a detective. Asin is a RJ in a tamil channel. Surya falls in love with Asin at first sight. Asin, meanwhile reciprocates Surya's love after some time. Meanwhile, the village bred Surya strolls around the village and just keeps on slicing the heads and hands and legs of whomever belonging to Kalabhavan Mani's gang. The opening scene itself gives a really hard masala + village smell to the film. The first 30 minutes of the film suck like anything with Surya reading out long long punch dialogues, very much unlike the usual Surya. The dialogues too are a pain to the ears. Then some gory fight scenes and the stupid stunt sequences makes the film degrade from its stature. The twist in the tale comes when both Suryas meet each other. Then, both of them swap homes and the Surya(Vetrivel) who was all this time battling with muscles goes to the house of Vasu and Vasu in turn disguises himself as Vel and battles the villain with his brains. Then, another twist in the tale arises when Vasu wants Vel to join their family but the family of Vel refuses to leave him out of love for their dear soul. What happens in the end is the climax. Sorry for letting out some spoilers, cos really I couldnt write a review without letting the story out cos it had nothing else in it. The music of Yuvan shankar Raja turns out to be a big flopper in this film. Almost all songs sound synonymous to many old songs. The familiar beats and the usual village folk music turns out to make our ears sore in the end. Asin looks beautiful in specs initially but later on turns out to be losing out on her looks. Also, Asin has very little scope to act in this film. Its out and out for Surya alone but even his acting doesnt seem to prove his usual might as an actor. But, Vadivelu gives the much needed essence to the film with his amazing comedy and acting. Kudos to him!!

Overall, a usual Hari movie with huge dosage of masala in it aimed at entertaining the audience. But something is missing somewhere. But, inspite of the poor music, the film is worth watchable atleast once.

"+":
* Sentiments coupled with the fiery attitude of Surya
* Vadivel's rib tickling comedy

"-":
* Hari can stop directing such films(Too much for the audience... these usual village stories)
* Disappointing muzik by Yuvan shankar raja who has given us some amazing hits in the past
* Surya and Asin are not at their best in this film
* Finally, stupid stunt sequences and punch dialogues which really were not necessary

So, its high time that Hari stops doing such films and its better if Surya becomes more choosy about his roles. Bottomline: Hari disappoints.. Vel failing to hit the nail on the head...

Rating: 4.5/10

The film starts of in a highly uncharacteristic fashion with a stupid stunt sequence.. Vijay being a gud stunt hero has been wasted by the Director who has used some really crazy graphics... Next comes the 100m sprint where Vijay once again falls prey to the stupid graphic work... Well... I wont let out the spoilers for sure guys!!! The first half is a bit boring with some stupid stunt sequences but the music comes as a ear soother to everyone... Hats off to AR Rahman... Commendable dancing by Vijay in Ellapughazhum song... The Kelamai Kaiyile song which starts of with a sexy hip movement by Shreya turns out to be an eye sore because of the poor cinematography... The folklore was good... Then, the real zeal starts off in the 2nd half with the introduction of Namitha and Vijay(part 2)... The boring 1st half is completely overshadowed by the fast paced 2nd half and Vijay as a anti hero does a really good job in his acting.. Finally, Vijay has started to experiment something differently which is good for him... The scenes involving the Vijay(antihero) simply is rib-tickling as well as interesting... The ESP(Extra Sensory Perception) is quite a different concept to Tamil cinema but of course it is an idea lifted straight from Hollywood.. The cute looking girl who dies in the film is a good find... She is bound to get some good offers as child artiste in the years to come.. Then, finally, the film is a good starter to the debutant director but hope he does some homework on the graphics and editing part... Well.. This story of the film Ammuvagiya Naan revolves around the life of a sex worker Ammu who incidentally is married by Parthiban(Gowrishankar) who happens to be a famous writer. The writer is famous for his various controversial novels but unfortunately, he is denied the coveted best writer for 3 consecutive years.. So, he is determined to lay hands upon that award and so decides that the life of a sex worker would be his next novel's theme. I usually dont tell the story of the films in my review.. So, I have just given a gist of the theme of the film..
This film rocks in the first scene itself.. Rocks in the sense, not the Sivaji type of rock but a different way.. Ammu, an 8yr old girl who happens to be the daughter of a prostitute stands along with several other pros.. I think it stings me to use the word again and again.. So, i'll use pros in short.. 4 men come there and select the 4 women pros and go to their respective OFFICE rooms.. Then, Ammu asks her mom, " AMMA!! Avanga ellam mattum velayadaraanga.. Naan avangala madhri eppo ma velayadardhu??" Mom's reply," Neeyum periyavalaanadhum andha velayaatta velayadalam!!." Aaha... Scintillating start to the film, I thought.. I mean idhu allava Thaai paasam!!! Next scene, I see a girl who is being chased by some children.. But I cannot see the face of that girl.. All I can see is the BACK view of the girl... An exclamation by Raja here... Wonder what he saw!!! Then, she keeps on running, running(All back view only).. And suddenly, we come to know that she is the heroine of the film.. Ammu... A song depicting that she has come of age... And the next scene, the girl is ready to play the GAME!!! An auction for that girl.. And a 60yr old man gets the One-night stand with her for 1lac INR... Ammu doesnt know anything about the rules of the game sadly... The old man starts off the game by asking Ammu to do skipping... And some camera work here... A censor here over the camera man's work... The ups and downs of life of that girl Ammu, is being enjoyed by the man.. Then, some ice work over her navel and some wine over her body, and she starts to scream.. The other pros come to Ammu's rescue and bash the old man up... Whoa!! I thot I was writing a review but instead writing the whole film.. Sheesh!!! So, I would change my theme.. Instead of writing a review, I will write some of the greatest dialogues in the film... Parthiban goes to that holy place with his friend.. He sees Ammu there... Her Aanmeegam makes him drool over her... time for another picture...
Well!! I hope that picture depicts the role of the heroine Ammu in the film pretty well... Then comes a song where they both starr... The song is A/A and the saddest thing here is that Ammu gets to wear only the tops and not the bottoms!!! Romba low budget padam pola??? Parthiban proposes to marry her.. But she refuses saying some really valid reasons... Next punch dialogue coming up... Abishek(of kolangal fame) spends a night with Ammu... At that time, he pours ice cream on her and says
"Ammu... Naan unakkum ICE vekkaren nu thappa nenakkadhe.. Nee romba azhaga irukke.. Naan unna vechukkava??" Ammu throws that piece of ice cream on his face and replies, " Naan Ice a thatti vittutennu thappa nenaikkadhe.. Enna kattikkave aal irukku"... Semma punch ma.. The film started and within one hour, it was intermission time... RAJA's dialogue during intermission, "Ennangada idhu??? Vandhanga.. Kiss adichaanga... Katti pidichaanga.. Matter pottanga.. Interval vittutaanga.. Enna padam da idhu" This dialogue in itself proved the class of the film... Adhavudhu, oru tea-glass ku kooda prayojanam illadaha first half... Atleast, second half aavudhu nalla irukkumnu paatha adhu innoru kodumai...
Adhuthu punch dialogue endha scene nu pictura paathale therinjurkumnu nenaikaren.. Parthiban marries Ammu and its the first night scene... Ammu asks him about the decorations.. He tells her that its the first night.. At that time, another punch yet sentimental dialogue from Ammu, " Enakku first nighta?? Naan idhu varikkum aambalainga illama night spend pannadhe kedayadhu..." Parthiban's reply, " Adhnaala dhaan first nightnu sonnen... Nee nalla nimmadhiya thoongara first night idhu dhaan.. Adha thaan sonnen..." Aaha... Enna sentimant pa!!! Pullarikkudhu!!! Next, dialogue.. Parthiban is typing the story of his book, Ammuvagiya Naan in his old type-writer.. Ammu comes and asks about the type-writer... He tells him that its his mom's and that it was the reason how, she earned money and which eventually led to his successful stint... The dialogue ," Ella veetlayum, pullaingala avanga amma appa adichu valappanga... Aana idha(type-writer) adichu dhaan enga amma enna valathaanga"... Sentimentaam la!!! Next, the scene where his friend tries to make parthiban realize the truth... Adhavudhu, Parthiban supports his wife to the fullest extent... At that time, the villain who is no1 but the old man whom we encountered in the first scene, who also happens to be the Akila Ulaga Thamizh Ilakkiya Sanga thalaivar, (Enna Kodumai Saravanan!!!) tells Parthiban that if he wanted to win the award he has to send Ammu for one n8 stand with him.. Parthiban beats him black and blue... The friend then calls him and tells him the dialogue, " Dei.. Naan solradha kaelu da.. Un lakshyam dhaanda unakku mukkiyam... Nee award vaanganum da... Andha Pachai Thev....... kaaga un awarda ezhakanuma?? Yosi da" which is incidentally heard by Ammu herself... Then, the next day, Ammu goes there to fulfil her husband's dream and the villain's hunger... But ends up killing the villain.. And suddenly the next scene was, the awards ceremony, where Parthiban receives the award with his wife... Happy ending!!!Aana kedaisi varikkum Enna solla varaannu dhaan puriyala...

"+"
Ammu oru BIG positive.. Apdiye oru Pachai _____ look... Fits exactly to the character... No more positives...

"-"
Indha padame oru periya Negative dhaan... Worstest ever!!! The film has no story.. No base... Just another skin show... Disappointment that Parthiban who has acted in many good films like housefull, Kudaikul mazhai etc has acted in such a worst film...
Rating: 1 lac for Ammu...
1 out of 10 for this film...

REVIEW --->UNNALE UNNALE Vinnala Chendrene!!!

Cast:
Vinay, Tanisha, Sadha, Raju Sundaram, Srinath, Sathish matrum palar...

Crew:
Banner : Oscar Films
Producer : V.Ravichandran
Story, Screenplay and Direction : Jeeva
Music Director : Harris Jayaraj
Dialogue : S.Ramakrishnan
Editing : V.T.Vijayan
Arts : Thotta Tharani
Choreography : Raju Sundaram
Lyrics : Kavignar Vaali, Pa.Vijay

Review:
To start with, Unnale Unnale is a poetic love story with a difference. From the introduction itself, it seems evident that this film is something new and different from the other films of the same genre and storyline. Vinay plays a young Civil Engineer and he is an ideal hero for this film and rightly fits into the role. Vinay is a tall, young and handsome lad shows good acting prowess and has good scope in kollywood with his looks. Tanisha is one of the heroines who happens to be the sister of the beautiful, evergreen Kajol... She is beautiful and bubbly and fits the bill as the friend of the hero Vinay...She looks fresh and never looks to make the environment gloomy. Then, Sadha..... I have seen her in Jeyam and Anniyan.... But not as beautiful, as charismatic, as sexy, as lively, as in Unnale Unnale!!! I just couldnt take my eyes of Sadha.. Scene by scene, Reel by Reel, she is as beautiful as I could imagine... The story is a poetic love story as i said before and it mainly revolves around these 3 characters.. All the 3 characters have done their part really well... A warm applause to the 2 new comers Tanisha and Vinay and a really, really warmer applause to Sadha for her acting.. Her eyes speak a lot in this movie... Oh!! I actually forgot that I was writing a review for a film not for the heroine.. The other cast like Raju, Srinath and Sathish have also done their part particularly well.. There is no separate comedy tracks... Each and every scene is filled with Youth, Love and Humour and so, there is really no need for a separate comedy track... And one more thing to be applauded is that there is no blood, no action which makes it one of those out and out love story... The film has been shot in Melbourne, Sydney and London.. So there is no dearth of scenery as well... So, a must watch for youth... I think the director must have done a lot of work cos he has completely read through the mind and mentality of a girl... Sadha as the possessive lover has done her job well and I would really want to adore my blog with this...

The Big "+" Music:
Music is one of the biggest plus in this movie... The picturisation of the songs is even more amazing.. Gr8 work by Jeeva... All the songs are amazing and even before the film was released, the songs created the much needed hype..But the film lived upto the expectations
. Jeeva and Harris Jayaraj have created magic in 12B and Ullam Ketkumae before. They have taken off from where they had left in Ullam Ketkumae to give a quality music which is sure to spell bound the masses.A right mix of melody and racy rhythms, the album has everything a music-connoisseur expects. Harris Jayaraj, a man of few words, has once again allowed his music to speak.

June Pona (Krish, Arun)
It begins with weighted rhythms that Harris Jayaraj is famous for. A western melody with perfect beats, the song has good orchestration which is a hallmark of Harris Jayaraj's songs. Leaving his signature in the song, the music-composer has managed to ensure that lyric and the music go hand in hand. Krish and Arun have rendered their best.

Hello Miss (G V Prakash, Anushka)
The young and talented music composer G V Prakash, who managed to hog all limelight with Veyyil, has crooned the song in the company of Anushka. Being a music director himself has helped him render the song with needed life. A typical Harris number, the song begins on a brisk note with a catchy humming, the Anglican way of rendering by Prakash is a big attraction. The additional percussion strikes.

Vaigasi Nilavae (Haricharan, Madhusree)
A perfect ten by Harris Jayaraj. A catchy melody with striking lyrics, the song sticks to the hearts on the first listening. Harris has proved yet again that he is the master of melodies. The brilliant use of guitars with percussion instruments, it is a good melody.With a solo violin in the interlude, Harris simply touches the heart and soul of the listeners in the interlude. Commendable job indeed by Harris.

Mudhal Naal (Mahalakshmi, KK)
Harris Jayaraj goes the Eric Clapton way. Begins with a perfect rhythm, the song has a catchy dilly and the mesmerizing flute in between to caress the listeners. The open-throated KK in the company of Mahalakshmi manages to create a romantic ambience. A difficult composition by Harris Jayaraj, but made to look at the easy at the end.

Ilamai Ulasam (Krish, Shalini)
Krish begins in a husky manner. With Shalini joining him, the song slowly goes on to catch the top gear. Harris Jayaraj has opted for saxophone to make a beginning. Watch out for the tunes, which flow like a stock market index going up and down. An attractive bit song.

Unnale Unnale (Karthik, Krish, Harini)
The title song of the album. Harris Jayaraj's hard work is evident in the way, the song has come out. All ready to top the audio charts, the song is oozing with energy all through. The thing that appeals to you the most is the splendid orchestration. Harris mastery in mixing and instrumentation is the real attraction of the number. Karthik, Krish and Harini play their part well.

The other plus include the other characters which play their roles perfectly well...A special applause to Kavignar Vaali and Pa.Vijay to add strength to the already strong Music of the film by penning down the songs..

Negative:

Cinematography was the positive and the negative side of the film... The Director could have avoided certain Camera angles which were not at all necessary for the film.. I think the director may have thought that there wasnt enough oomph in the film.. So, he could have avoided exposing both the heroines especially Sadha who never needed glamour in this film at all bcos of her expressions.. Apart from these, the film was as colorful and as youthful as a love story should be..So the conclusion is that the producer has taken a brave step by producing such a film because not all directors have such a bold climax in their story.Jeeva, who has done the double role of directing and handling the camera, has not slipped on both the fronts. In fact, one compliments the other. To a movie on love, his work is filled with love and care.Unnale Unnale, on the whole, is a cool romantic treat for a hot season.

Banner:Duet Movies
Cast:Prithviraj, Prakash Raj, Jyothika, Swarnamalya, Brahmanadam, M. S. Bhaskar

Production:Prakash Raj
Music:Vidyasagar
Website:http://www.mozhithefilm.com/

First of all, A really, really valiant attempt by Prakashraj to produce this film. Not many producers would have come forward when this script would have been told to them. Prakashraj deserves Dumb claps for this. Hats off to Jyothika for her amazing acting. She has come out with a peach of a performance in this film. Radhamohan, the director has made sure that all the characters in this film lay a good part. This is very rare in the films revolving nowadays which are mostly hero-centered. Jyothika, portrayed as a deaf and dumb with passion and courage as her strengths has made a flawless performance and she deserves an accolade every alternate lines that i write. I just cant take my eyes of her in this film. Then, Prithviraj is another one to be lauded in this film for a decent performance. He almost fits exactly into the bill and has come out with another good performance after parijatham. One should say, being a malayalam actor, he is fluent even in his speech. Swarnamalya plays her role well as joe's friend and has done her job particularly well. I hope she does some more character roles such as this. Prakashraj and Brahmanadam are spontaneous in the comedy and when prithvi joins them, its a good treat to watch. M.S.Bhaskar too has done a commendable job as a mentally affected professor and the scene in which prithvi cures him is a good senti... Im really astonished as to how Jyothika learnt these codes and has done it at such a speed and timing. Truely she is on top of Kollywood. I hope surya allows her to do some more good projects as this. Last but not the least, Vidhyasagar's music comes as a good + for the movie. So, this movie is one heck of a story, so guys and gals, dont miss it.. Pls watch it in the theatre.. Dont watch it in dvds or cds cos Mahesh. For the tamil review click this link Mahesh. Kudos to MOZHI-> The power of silence!!!!
